Well done on finishing Ally.I decided to take the weekend off.To be honest not even sure how i am going to structure the essay, thinking of waffling about the different status within the gladiators and then move on to the different attitudes. You will waltz through the colosseum, there is tons of info in the books-unlike the gladiators.
Thanks for the well done, but I'm now starting to worry that what I've put hasn't answered the question. Argh! Thinking about the source material, I think there is enough in the resource book (the Weidemann and Hopkins articles seem to provide the most info), but the primary source stuff I didn't find much use. I used a quote from Cicero, and one of Martial's poems, but mentioned the uselessness of the poem due to its kowtowing to the Emperor. Still not sure it answers the question though. My tutor has recommended a book 'Daily Life In Ancient Rome' by Jerome Carcopino. She says there is an interesting chapter on the games and gladiators in it.
Good luck!
